How IMA Qualifications Are Assessed

The International Make-Up Association (IMA) is committed to maintaining professional standards in make-up and hair education worldwide. All IMA qualifications are independently assessed to ensure students achieve the practical skills, theoretical knowledge, and professional standards expected within the industry.

Qualification Requirements

To successfully achieve an IMA qualification, students must demonstrate competency through attendance, practical assessments, coursework, portfolio submission, and external verification.

These requirements apply to the:

  • IMA Make-up Application Certificate

  • IMA Fashion, Photographic & Media Make-up Diploma

  • IMA Hair Dressing Diploma

Attendance Requirements

Students are required to attend a minimum of 80% of their scheduled training programme. Regular attendance is essential to ensure the development of practical skills and professional working practices.

Practical Skills Development

Throughout their training, students complete a variety of make-up and hair styling techniques designed to develop versatility and industry-ready skills.

Practical work may include a range of styles, client requirements, skin tones, face shapes, hair types, and creative applications. This ensures students gain experience across a broad spectrum of professional scenarios.

Portfolio Submission

Each student must compile a professional portfolio demonstrating the work completed during their course.

The portfolio may include:

  • Practical make-up and hair assessments

  • Photographic evidence of completed work

  • Coursework assignments

  • Research projects

  • Supporting documentation

  • Professional development records

The portfolio forms an important part of the overall assessment process and provides evidence of the student's skills and progression.

Coursework Requirements

Students are required to complete a range of written and research-based assignments that support their practical training.

These may include:

Work Log

A record of practical activities, learning experiences, and professional development completed throughout the course.

Professional Product Research

Research into professional make-up and hair products, suppliers, equipment, and industry standards.

Written Project

A structured project on an approved topic, demonstrating research skills, product knowledge, and industry understanding.

Our mission

We're on a mission to change the way the housing market works. Rather than offering one service or another, we want to combine as many and make our clients' lives easy and carefree. Our goal is to match our clients with the perfect properties that fit their tastes, needs, and budgets.

Our vision

We want to live in a world where people can buy homes that match their needs rather than having to find a compromise and settle on the second-best option. That's why we take a lot of time and care in getting to know our clients from the moment they reach out to us and ask for our help.
